What it does have over XCOM is that the difficulty remains a bit more consistent with the latest patches, especially with the Duty Eternal DLC (if you enable it roughly after 1/3rd of the campaign). Surprisingly, it suffers from the same fundamental flaw: it offers little mission variety when it comes to regular ones. It has a geoscape that is simplified compared to XCOM, but much more developped than GoW: Tactics. It somewhat encourages playing faster (AP refund on pod trigger if you were not in combat makes a huge difference). The combat system is a more Gears of War Tactics than XCOM (3 actions, executions refund actions), except for the pod system. I think Chaos Gate is a flawed gem, but if you can look past its defects, it is an awesome game: I haven't play Midnight SunsI don't agree with the naysayers at all.
